Editorial support

PsychOpen offers its journals a hardware and software platform and associated electronic publishing services free of charge, using the open-source Open Journal Systems (OJS) software. We furthermore offer consultation in initial configuration, graphic design, and ongoing system support.

The editorial control lies with the editor-in-chief of every journal. Using the OJS platform, each journal's editorial team will be responsible for all editorial workflow management, including the work of soliciting submissions, conducting peer reviews, copyediting, layout, publication scheduling, and all correspondence with readers, authors, reviewers, and editorial staff.

For accepted articles PsychOpen offers its support with the layout editing process. We work with the professional publishing software eXtyles that molds Word documents into standard styles and supports editing, correcting, as well as linking references to PubMed and CrossRef data. Once articles are processed in this manner, further formats for electronic publishing such as pdf or html will be derived.

Open access

Because PsychOpen supports the free and open exchange of information, all journals will be offered to a global audience free of charge, i.e., without subscription costs under a CC-BY license. This agreement allows anyone to disseminate and reproduce the article, as long as proper attribution of authorship is given and citation details are provided.

Moreover, with PsychOpen there are no article-processing charges for submitted or accepted articles.

Metadata for the materials published in the PsychOpen journals will be freely available for harvesting by Internet search engines. Metadata records will be freely exposed to external search engines using the Open Archives Initiative for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH).

Starting a new journal with or transferring an existing one to PsychOpen is entirely free of charge.

Copyright

Authors who publish in any of PsychOpen's journals retain copyright under a CC-BY Creative Commons Attribution. In the event of a copyright infringement claim or other legal challenge, PsychOpen may require the editor-in-chief of the journal to correct or remove the offending material from the journal.

Journal Websites

All PsychOpen journals are online publications. If a print version is desired, for example where a learned society wishes to provide print editions for their members, we will help you find a print-on-demand service.

To provide consistency for users and to ensure maximum efficiency, our journal Websites are based on OJS templates which offer various customization options. For examples of journal homepages, see our publications.

The journal will be assigned a URL corresponding with the journal's abbreviated name within the domain *.psychopen.eu.

Continuity

PsychOpen will maintain Internet access to all its journals and all of the content published therein. In addition, PsychOpen will employ the LOCKSS system and partner with a minimum of 6 libraries or other institutions who use the LOCKSS system to register and cache the journal content in geographically dispersed locations to ensure a secure and permanent archive for the journal.

The journal's editorial team will adhere to its stated publication schedule. As a member of CrossRef, PsychOpen will supply and register Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) free of charge for all articles published in PsychOpen journals.

Marketing

PsychOpen has a dedicated marketing team to support all of its publications. To achieve this goal, PsychOpen promotes journals both online and offline by targeted e-mail campaigns and conference attendance/sponsorship. Additionally, the PsychOpen team utilizes and engages in key social media channels.

User services

PsychOpen user services provide guidance to all users - whether they publish on our platform or search within our range of products.

For any inquiries regarding the establishment of a new open-access journal / publication project or the transfer of an existing one, please contact the PsychOpen team.
