Copyright policy

All PsychOpen articles are distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license.

Under the CC BY license, authors retain ownership of the copyright for their article, but authors grant others permission to use authors' articles in whole or in part provided that the original work is properly cited. Users of the content of any PsychOpen journal ("the Journal") are required to cite the original source, including the author's names, the Journal as the initial source of publication, year of publication, volume number and DOI (if available).

Authors may publish the manuscript in any other journal or medium but any such subsequent publication must include a notice that the manuscript was initially published by the Journal.

Authors grant the Journal the right of first publication. Although authors remain the copyright owner, they grant the Journal the irrevocable, nonexclusive rights to publish, reproduce, publicly distribute and display, and transmit their article or portions thereof in any manner.

Submission Preparation Checklist

PsychOpen journals require that all manuscripts comply with PsychOpen's Guidelines on Publication Ethics and PsychOpen's Author Guidelines. These guidelines are based on the Publication Style Guide of the American Psychological Association (APA).

As part of the submission process, authors are required to confirm their submission's compliance with all of the following items:

  1. The submission has neither been previously published, nor is currently submitted to another journal for consideration.
  2. No copyrighted material is used unless that material has also been made available under a CC-BY license.
  3. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of a journal, authors have removed all personal information from the manuscript. The instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
  4. The submission complies with the PsychOpen Author Guidelines.
